AN INTERACTIVE, SWING-ALONG PICTURE BOOK—WITH 12 SOUND CHIPS!

Are you ready to swing? Discover the wonders of jazz: How to get in the groove, what it means to play a solo, and the joy of singing along in a call-and-response.

In this interactive swing-along picture book with 12 sound chips, you’ll hear the instruments of jazz—the rhythm section with its banjo, drums, and tuba, and the leads, like the clarinet, trumpet, and trombone. And you’ll hear singers scat, improvising melodies with nonsense syllables like be-bop and doo-we-ah!

Along the way, you’ll learn how this unique African American art form started in New Orleans, and how jazz changed over time as innovative musicians like King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Billie Holiday added their own ideas to it.

Press the buttons to hear the band, the rhythms, and the singer calling out: “OH WHEN THE SAINTS—oh when the saints…”

Welcome to Jazz!

In this interactive book with 12 sound chips, you’ll hear the instruments of jazz—the rhythm section with its banjo, drums, and tuba, and the leads, like the clarinet, trumpet, and trombone. And you’ll hear singers scat, improvising melodies with nonsense syllables like be-bop and doo-we-ah!

Look for the cues.

As you read, look for prompts to push the buttons. These prompts will be numbered. To hear the trumpet playing the melody, press 7.

Push the numbered circles on the sound panel to hear the music.

The buttons are numbered, illustrated, and labeled to make it easy for kids to spot the right one. High-quality sound emits from the speaker at the bottom of the panel. The book includes three replaceable AG13 cell batteries.

More than just a sound book.

Kids will enjoy the sounds of jazz while also learning how this unique American art form started in New Orleans and how jazz changed over time as musicians like Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday added their own ideas to it. Historical context, key terms, and a beginner’s playlist can be found in the back of the book.

A unique interactive introduction to classical music. Discover what a symphony is. Who Beethoven was. What a conductor does. And when you should and shouldn’t clap. With its 19-button sound panel, readers will hear the different parts of the music.
